Electric pallet truck drive wheels transfer motor torque to the floor and control starting, braking and travel. An incorrect wheel may cause slipping, rapid wear, vibration, reduced battery efficiency or difficulty fitting the motor shaft.
WSCS supplies standard and custom electric pallet truck drive wheels for warehouse, logistics and industrial material-handling equipment. Different wheel dimensions, polyurethane or rubber materials, hardness levels and hub connections are available for OEM and replacement requirements.
An electric pallet truck normally uses several wheel types with different functions:
| Wheel Type | Main Function | Key Purchasing Concern |
|---|---|---|
| Drive wheel | Transfers motor torque and moves the truck | Traction, bore, keyway, torque and wear |
| Load wheel | Supports the pallet and fork load | Load capacity, rolling resistance and impact |
| Pallet roller | Runs beneath the forks and supports low-profile movement | Diameter, width, bearings and floor joints |
| Stabilizing wheel | Supports balance during turning | Height, preload and floor contact |
Buyers replacing a complete wheel set should distinguish the powered drive wheel from pallet truck load wheels and polyurethane pallet rollers. These components may use different dimensions, bearings and material hardness.
The truck brand and model are helpful, but they may not be sufficient because equipment versions can use different motors or wheel assemblies. Confirm the wheel dimensions and hub connection before ordering.
Important measurements include:
Outside diameter
Tread width
Hub length
Bore diameter
Keyway width and depth
Bolt-hole or flange dimensions
Shoulder and mounting-face positions
The drive wheel does not necessarily carry an equal share of the truck and cargo weight. Battery position, fork load, stabilizing wheels and chassis design affect the actual load.
Acceleration, braking, floor joints and slope operation also create dynamic forces that are not reflected by stationary weight alone.
Electric pallet trucks frequently operate on epoxy, polished concrete, tiles, loading docks and floors with expansion joints. The floor affects traction, noise, impact and wear.
Smooth indoor floors require controlled traction without excessive rolling resistance.
Rough concrete increases impact, cutting and tread wear.
Wet or oily floors require careful material and tread-profile selection.
Floor joints can cause repeated shock and edge damage.
Pallet trucks frequently start, stop and turn in confined warehouse aisles. These movements generate longitudinal torque and lateral shear on the tread.
Frequent pivot turns can cause edge wear or chunking even when straight-line abrasion is limited. Buyers should provide the expected travel pattern and number of operating shifts.
Polyurethane pallet truck drive wheels are commonly selected for load capacity, wear resistance, dimensional stability and controlled rolling resistance.
Rubber drive wheels may be considered when cushioning, low noise or grip is the main priority. However, softer rubber can deform more under load and may increase rolling resistance.
Hardness should be selected according to load, floor, speed, traction and operating time. A harder wheel is not automatically more durable, and a softer wheel is not automatically safer.
Repeated tread deformation generates internal heat. Heavy loads, higher speed, frequent acceleration, pivot turning and long operating hours can increase wheel temperature.
Warehouses operating multiple shifts should evaluate dynamic fatigue and heat build-up rather than relying only on static load capacity.
Standard replacement wheels are suitable when the dimensions, material and hub interface match the existing truck. A custom solution may be needed when:
The original model is discontinued
The existing wheel has an unusual bore or keyway
The current tread wears or slips too quickly
The floor or operating environment has changed
An equipment manufacturer is developing a new pallet truck
A distributor requires a private-label replacement wheel
WSCS can develop custom replacement pallet truck wheels from a drawing, operating information or an existing sample. Selected standard and replacement products can be evaluated for one-piece or small-batch orders.
Possible causes include oil or water on the floor, insufficient drive-wheel load, unsuitable material, a worn tread or aggressive acceleration settings.
Inspect alignment, bearings, stabilizing-wheel adjustment, load distribution and differences between paired wheels.
Sharp debris, floor joints, pivot turns, overloading and unsuitable tear resistance can damage the tread.
Possible causes include hub corrosion, bonding problems, high torque, excessive heat or deformation of the wheel core.
Check wheel roundness, radial runout, bearing condition, tread hardness and floor damage.
Excessive rolling resistance may result from overloading, soft tread deformation, misalignment, worn bearings or unsuitable wheel dimensions.
The outside diameter is below the equipment’s permitted limit
The tread contains deep cuts, cracks or missing pieces
Polyurethane or rubber is separating from the hub
The wheel repeatedly slips on a clean, suitable floor
The bore, keyway or flange is damaged
Abnormal vibration, noise or temperature develops
Wear causes the truck chassis or forks to operate at the wrong height
No. Dimensions, motor shafts, keyways and hub structures vary by truck model and production version. Measurements should be confirmed before ordering.
Polyurethane is commonly selected for load capacity, wear and dimensional stability. Rubber may provide more cushioning and grip in some conditions. The correct choice depends on the floor, load and duty cycle.
Not automatically. Each wheel should be inspected separately, but worn load wheels or rollers can change truck height, load distribution and travel stability.
Yes. The sample should be supplied with the truck model, installation dimensions and operating conditions because the original tread diameter may have been reduced by wear.
Send WSCS your truck model, wheel dimensions, photographs and operating conditions to identify a standard electric pallet jack drive wheel or develop a custom replacement solution.
